Refuting the Jehovah's Witnesses

For Christians, faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ is enough to lead them to everlasting life. However many of them, at some point in their lives, have received a knock on the door at their home from the Jehovah's Witnesses. Though the Jehovah's Witnesses refer to themselves as Christians, they are not part of mainstream Christianity since their theology is radically different from what is taught in the Bible. They follow the teachings of a Watchtower Society that claims to be God's sole channel of communication on earth. Jehovah's Witnesses are trained to dialogue in such a way as to challenge the beliefs of those who disagree with them. For example, by asking certain questions to their hosts, they attempt to begin an exchange that will create doubt and confusion to those who would oppose them.

According to the Jehovah’s Witnesses, they come to do God's will and to spread the good news of Jehovah’s kingdom. They will generally offer their hosts a free Bible study accompanied by their literature, a free Watchtower magazine. For their overly zealous receivers, they might offer them a free Bible, their own personal New World Translation, and an invitation to their local Kingdom Hall, the place where they gather every week for study and fellowship.

When confronted by the Jehovah’s Witnesses, it is necessary for Christians to be equipped with the armor of God and to have knowledge and understanding of the Bible. Ephesians 6:12-13 states: "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand."

When false doctrine is taught by using poor translations such as the Jehovah’s Witnesses’ New World Translation (further referred to as the NWT), it will always manifest itself when brought before the Light. This section has two major objectives. First, to keep Christians in the truth strong in their faith and in full confidence that there is an answer to all doctrinal challenges made by the Jehovah’s Witnesses. On all occasions, the contents will not only provide support for the Christians’ position, but will demonstrate that the actual burden is on the Witnesses. They need to make the choice; to either believe what the Bible teaches or what the Watchtower teaches. Unfortunately, they cannot have both!

Secondly, Christians can use the contents within this section as a witnessing tool when dialoguing with Jehovah's Witnesses. It is important to remember that God's word does not return void (Isaiah 55:11). The seed that the Christian plants today may very well be the seed that God allows to grow tomorrow. Whether or not the Jehovah's Witnesses decide to accept this information is entirely up to them. However, as they are shown that their theology lacks credibility and is without merit, and they decide to continue their false teachings, they may be held accountable for their actions because they will no longer have a viable excuse. God's word is not to be compromised or manipulated. Should they be shown the truth and remain unwilling to accept it, God may very well use their decision as the seal for their own spiritual destruction.

With enough prayer, God will use the contents within this section to open the eyes of those who have yet to understand, such as the Jehovah's Witnesses, to whom this is dedicated.
